National Health Insurance
The National Healh Insurance, Heilsutrygd, is a public health insurance for everyone who resides in the Faroes. It supplements and pays for various health services. TAKS collects the health insurance fee on behalf of Heilsutrygd.
Who funds the National Health Insurance?
All individuals, aged 18 or older and who live in the Faroe Islands, are required to pay the insurance premium.
As of 1 January 2021, the premium is DKK 175 a month, plus 0.7% of one's taxable income.
How is the insurance premium collected?
The health insurance premium can be collected in two ways:
- If you have an A-income that is paid via the tax withholding system, the insurance premium is automatically withheld before you receive the money.
- If you do not have an A-income or if your A-income is too low for the premium to be collected automatically, you will be billed every other month.
If you fall under category 2, you can make a payment agreement so that the premium is automatically transferred when it is due. Click the link under quick links.
